Today it is an internationally important technology center, but Brno traces its scientific roots at least as far back as the 1850s, when the Augustinian friar and father of modern genetics Gregor Mendel was conducting experiments with pea plants in a local monastery garden.

Gale A. Kirking and Associates is a sister company of English Editorial Services, a communications firm that Kirking established in Brno during 2003 (www.englisheditorialservices.com). Kirking has been living and working in Europe since 1992. Prior to establishing his Czech firm, he had worked as an investment analyst and research director in several European financial services companies.
